embedding XHTML inside XForms and using Javascript to read out the values entered.

I am trying to embed XHTML code inside an XForm. The reason: I want to try auto-tabbing using this alternate approach. The auto-tabbing solution so kindly given by alexansom is an elegant solution in Formsplayer, but in a Server side XForms processor like Orbeon, it does not work. Because of the architecture and the network lag, I lose keystrokes and the desired user experience is lost.
Therefore I was wondering if I could try autotabbing by embedding XHTML. Any pointers on how to do this are appreciated.
