Upgrade problems to 1.5.4.1022 - my latest install is 1.5.5.1017

As I am always trying to have the latest version available, I tried to upgrade to what seems to be the latest version according to the website (2007-08-31 : 1.5.4.1022). However, it looks as there is a version numbering problem. I once installed version 1.5.5.1017 (2007-08-08) and now the installer refuses to upgrade.
Is 1.5.4.1022 really later than 1.5.5.1017 ?

Should I do a full uninstall and then re-install 1.5.4.1022 ?

With best regards,

Jozef

Versions 1.5.4, 1.5.5 and 1.5.6

Hi Jozef,

> Is 1.5.4.1022 really later than 1.5.5.1017 ?

Yes, the recent builds of 1.5.4 are newer than the ones you have used for 1.5.5. As you know, we have been working on new and more powerful support for select and select1 which you'll find in 1.5.5. However, this isn't quite ready yet, so please treat these builds as very much a 'preview' of the new features. Version 1.5.4 has all of the new speed improvements in repeat, as well as the optimisations on switch and case, but it doesn't have the new select/select1 implementations. This makes it much closer to being a deployable version, since there is no code that is still 'in progress'.

There have still been improvements with select handling in 1.5.4, so it is much faster than before, particularly on loading. But we're holding back for a little longer the changes that we've been working on in 1.5.5, whilst we finish XForms 1.1 support, and add a couple of other features. You can see what is lined up for 1.5.6 in the 1.5 roadmap.

The next builds that we create will be 1.5.6-based, but will not contain the custom control enhancements to select that you have seen in 1.5.5. In the future we're going to keep the developer previews separate from the main trunk so that we don't get this kind of confusion. We should be releasing the first builds of 1.5.6 today or tomorrow, and they will simply overwrite your current 1.5.5, so whether you uninstall and reinstall now, depends on how much of a hurry you are in, or whether you need any of the bug fixes in 1.5.4.

We're very keen to remove this kind of confusion, so we're in the process of making a clearer distinction between developer releases that preview major changes, and more general builds that contain bug fixes and less significant new features. We're nearly there, but it will take a little longer to sort out, and until we've finalised our approach there won't be any more developer previews.

Regards,

Mark
